The 2012 Overture Poetry By Howie Good

There are so many things to lose in a year besides time.  As yet another year draws to a close, maybe you'll find some of those things in the words of the always insightful Howie Good.  Sparse, wry, and with understated but startling imagery, Howie Good's poetry shows that despite the old saying a few words (in the right order of course) are worth a thousand pictures.

If There's a Hell Below, We're All Gonna Go Poetry By Tim Wells

Unofficial poet laureate of London’s East End, Tim Wells has written on subjects as varied as Kate Moss going bowling, Gilbert and George eating breakfast, and 80s reggae legend Eek a Mouse. We like him because he makes us laugh, cry, and occasionally expel a weird snorting sound which is somewhere in between the two. He also sports a mean cravat. Editor of cult mag Rising, which springs hot off the photocopier whenever he feels like it, Wells is a Forward prize nominee and this week’s TPR feature. You can go read now. Just make sure you also check out Well’s fantastic The Horror of Your Daughter’s New Boyfriend Turning Up Wearing Green Suede Cuban Heels. There. Now we’ve said it all.

City of Dark Magic Fiction By Magnus Flyte

“You will learn, when you go to Prague. There is magic there.” And so starts Sarah Weston's journey in the upcoming major Penguin release City of Dark Magic. What follows is a mystery in the jewel of Central Europe. Kirkus Reviews calls Magnus Flyte's debut novel an “exuberant, surprising gem”.  Or take the word of one Conan O’Brien: “This deliciously madcap novel has it all: murder in Prague, time travel, a misanthropic Beethoven, tantric sex, and a dwarf with attitude. I salute you, Magnus Flyte!” As do we Coco. You don’t have to wait until the November 27th release date to get a taste of this delicious tale. TPR is proud to present an exclusive excerpt of Magnus Flyte’s City of Dark Magic. Just be careful. There is magic in Prague. Dark magic.

Gulls Poetry By Bohumil Hrabal

In 1998, TPR 5 published  of a selection of twenty poems translated by David Chirico from Hrabal’s Den a noci (Days and Nights). These selections are at times both tragic and funny. Both brain-scorchingly vivid and luminously tender. These are verse and prose poems that deserve the widest audience possible. As a way of celebrating Hrabal, we will bring you few of these  poems every month culminating in the completion The TPR Bohumil Hrabal Archives. Today, we present to you Gulls from Hrabal's Days collection. We hope you enjoy, in Hrabal’s own words, his “trafficking with beauty”.

Mr. Chowdhury's Chowder Fiction By Vishwas Gaitonde

The world is a smaller place now than ever before.  It’s not just about being able to get to places easily, but having those places come to you.  Go for some burritos in Prague.  Eat sushi in Milwaukee.  Grab some McDonald’s in Tiananmen Square.  You can even eat quinoa in Korea.  And, now, in Vishwas Gaitonde’s wonderfully whimsical Mr. Chowdhury’s Chowder you can visit Calcutta and try a certain Boston Clam Chowder that is unlike any other.
